Building Schools, Creating Brighter Futures

Education can change a child’s life. It opens doors to new opportunities, builds confidence, and gives children the chance to create a better future for themselves and their families.

At WAVE, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn in a safe and supportive environment. We work to provide children with access to education, especially those who face financial and social challenges. Our focus is not only on helping children attend school, but also on creating an environment where they can learn, grow, and believe in their potential.

Through our education initiatives, we aim to support students, improve learning opportunities, and help build a brighter future for the next generation. Because when a child gets the chance to learn, an entire future can change.

School Building Construction

We have rebuilt two high schools in AJK and handed them over to the Government Education Department of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, helping create better and more supportive learning environments for local students.

Girls High School Mustimba

The school provides space for 300 female students and is the only girls’ school within a 15 km radius, giving more girls in the surrounding communities the opportunity to continue their education.

Higher Secondary School Kassiyan Halal

The school accommodates 320 students and is the only Science Higher Secondary School serving two union councils, helping students access higher-level education closer to home.

Government Higher Secondary School

Kassiyan Halal is a village near Muzaffarabad with a population of around 5,000 people. During winter, heavy snowfall can cut the village off from the main city, making everyday life especially difficult for local families and students.

For many children, access to a safe and comfortable classroom has been a challenge. In harsh weather, students have had to study in inadequate conditions or miss school altogether.

The area has one of the highest primary school enrolment rates in Pakistan, yet many schools remained in need of proper facilities following the 2005 earthquake. This made rebuilding and improving local schools an important priority for the community.

Kassiyan Halal is the only Science Higher Secondary School serving two union councils, covering a community of approximately 80,000 people. More than 65% of its students are girls, making the school especially important for expanding educational opportunities for young women.

WAVE supported the reconstruction using quality materials suited to the local climate, with a total project cost of 1.34 million. The completed project has benefited 300 students and included furniture and essential fixtures for both students and teachers.

The school was handed over to the Education Department, Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, with a local management committee established to help care for and maintain the building.

Government Girls High School

Government Girls High School Mustimba was completed in 2018, funded by WAVE Australia and constructed by CDRS. It is the only girls’ school within a 15 km radius, making it an important source of education for girls in the surrounding communities.

The school was originally established in 1982 but was later destroyed by the 1992 floods. Without a proper school building, girls were forced to study in difficult conditions, often without adequate classrooms or basic facilities.

In remote areas of Azad Kashmir, harsh weather and limited educational infrastructure can make it difficult for children to remain in school. For many girls, the lack of suitable facilities can become a major barrier to continuing their education.

Today, the rebuilt school provides 300 female students with a safe and supportive place to learn. With proper classrooms, furniture, and a more comfortable learning environment, students can focus on their education and look ahead to a brighter future.

By rebuilding a school, we are helping rebuild opportunities for an entire community.
